The Old Magistrates Court
The Courthouse Hotel has a rather interesting history as it was previously the UK’s second oldest magistrate’s court, dating all the way back to the 1800s. Prior to the court closing in 1998 it saw many high profile court cases involving celebrities, including Oscar Wilde, John Lennon, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger.
Nowadays the building plays host to its clientele for an entirely different reason. Set in the Grade II Listed Magistrates Court, The Courthouse Hotel puts a modern twist on its original historical features.
From the beautifully modern rooftop bar to the highly recommended Silk Restaurant set within the courtroom, old and new are melded together within this luxury hotel. As you enter through the large wooden doors you will be greeted by a highly original hotel design from the ornate gated entrance to the seashell chairs in reception. Enjoy a drink in The Bar built around the original prison cells but with somewhat more comfortable modern seating! Soak up the sun in the stylish “Toy Roof” rooftop bar or indulge in some fine dining at the Silk Restaurant.
If its relaxation you seek The Courthouse Hotel is only too happy to oblige with its pool and Sanook Spa. Alternatively you could always catch a film in the hotel’s own private cinema showing cult classics from around the world.
Iconic Club® offers The Courthouse’s Classic Rooms, Superior Rooms and the Deluxe King Rooms.
