With Royal connections
The origin of the ‘May Fair’ hotel is closely aligned with the origin of the now exclusive Mayfair district of London. In the 17th century King James II granted an annual fair in May to the residents of the then growing city of London. This May Fair subsequently gave rise to the London district of Mayfair but when in 1927 the namesake hotel was opened on Stratton Street, the founders decided to echo the historic origins of the area with the original separation of the words and so The May Fair hotel came to be.
Fittingly James II’s successors several centuries later, King George V and Queen Mary opened the new luxury hotel which was to become a favorite haunt of London’s high society and the rich and famous who flocked to the exciting thriving capital city from around the globe.
Today the May Fair Hotel is the product of this rich and Royal heritage not to mention a recent £75m refurb. The hotel is a luxurious destination with a rich history and set in perhaps London’s most coveted district with the very best of what this wonderful city has to offer in shopping, entertainment and the arts and culture on your doorstep. If you don’t want to compromise on the quality of your stay this is the place and the hotel for you.
